So we have been through our training and our first full week as work campers. There are 4 bath houses and 5 rental units to keep track of. This looks like it could be a busy job. But we figure being walking distance to the beach will be worth it! So far the weather here has been less than stellar, but it is still early…it will get better soon I hope. We were able to catch a nice sunset the other day…

Yesterday we had winds around 27mph so we thought we would go see the waves hitting the beach. They were coming in hard…as a matter of fact most of the beach you can usually walk on was in the water…it looked rough but still beautiful at the same time…

Well we made it to Camp Hatteras in North Carolina’s Outer Banks and we will be here through Labor Day doing some work camping. We officially start training tomorrow, so we thought we better hit the beach today. We got an early start and saw this…

So we ran back home…luckily the park is on the beach, so not a real long run :) but it did clear up and we got to go back and enjoy a few hours….

Well it has ben awhile. The visit with the family went well and we are now in Mt Airy NC, Andy Griffith’s home town. We walked around the city today and visited the Andy Griffith museum and ate a Pork Chop sandwich at Snappy Lunch. It was good! We went to the replica of Wally’s garage and the Mayberry courthouse. It was a pretty interesting day :) We are now headed to The Outer Banks for our summer job at Camp Hatteras! Here are some pictures of the old Mayberry courthouse replica:

Well we are about to leave Mammoth Cave after spending a few days. This was my first time here ( and i am from Kentucky) but Toni has been here before. It is a fantastic site. We took two tours, the new entrance and the historic tour, and we are wore out :) The campground doesn’t have electricity and I am missing my breathing machine so it is time to go. But here are a few pictures from this trip.

We got into our campground on Thursday. We decided to stay at the White Oak Creek Campground. It is ran by the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE). This is our second ACE campground and we think they are wonderful. Nice big sites and they usually are right near the water. Here is a picture of our site.

We went to the Providence Canyon State Park on Saturday and it was very nice. We walked into every canyon (there is 9) and did the 3 mile walk around the park. Now I can’t speak for Toni, but I am so glad we started this full-time thing young because yesterdays walk tested me good. I was hurting! I don’t know how many miles we walked but the trail was marked strenuous, and it lived up to it’s reputation. But I am glad we went, because it was beautiful. Here is a picture of it…

I have now posted all our pictures from our time in Cedar Key fL. We are going to be packing up and leaving here tomorrow. We had a great time in this little fishing village and will probably return some day. Our next stop was Savannah GA, but weather has moved us to go see Providence Canyon State Park in GA instead. Then we will go up to Mammoth Cave Ky before getting into Northern KY to visit family. Here are our pictures and if you ever get down this way I recommend stopping to see the area, and stay at Cedar Key RV Resort, it’s a great place!

Yesterday we tok a kayak trip in the gulf again. What I learned is that if you can block out all the distractions and really look, you will see beauty all around you…

Well maybe not everywhere :)

We took the trip to go to Atsena Otie Key off the shores of Cedar Key and to paddle over to the Waccasassa Bay Nature Preserve State Park (only accessible by water). Atsena Otie was originally the main island where the city was over 100 years ago…before a hurricane wiped it out. Atsena Onie has a trail to an old cemetery and Toni loves cemeteries so we had to go see it. Throughout the trip there was beauty all around me, if I would just take the time to see it.

This was just starting the trail after we had landed the kayak on Atsena Otie Key.

This appeals to every man with half a brain, and probably some women too ;)

Those are some shots from the cemetery. First a rusted old gate from some family’s burial plot. Second a fallen headstone someone had propped up on a tree and put a plastic rose behind it.

An inlet just past the cemetery where kayaks can cut through they island.

As we were walking back from the cemetery we saw this prickly pear cactus in perfect bloom. We passed it to get to the cemetery, but we were to focused on our goal to look around and see the beauty on the path.

After we slowed down we where able to recognize the trees…

When we got back down to the beach we took a fresh look around…

Then it was back into the water to kayak where were greeted by lovely views and a friendly dolphin that came pretty close to the kayak…

So what is my point to the story? Beauty is always there… if we just look. I wonder just how many beautiful things I have missed because I didn’t take the time to explore something, or was just too deep inside my own head to recognize it. It may be a challenge for me, but I want to start seeing all the beauty around me. Wish me luck!

Not high school or college classmates, but Escapee classmates. Let me explain, every year on the Escapees forum, ( a forum about full time RVing… http://www.rvnetwork.com/ )  the people that go full time RVing that year are considered classmates. We are in the class of 2011. So yesterday Gary and Leeanne, “The Boonedocks,” drove down to Cedar Key to check out the area and meet with us. We sat around the campground and swapped stories, then they went into Cedar Key to explore. We caught back up for dinner and went back to the camper for some more stories. We had a great time. They are great people and we sure do hope to run into them again somewhere down the road. They are somewhere in Gainesville today enjoying their 26th anniversary. Congratulations to both of you, hope you have a wonderful day!

If you want to keep up with them their website is: http://boonedocksllc.blogspot.com/

Here they are on the Cedar Key pier watching the sunset.

And here is the sunset we all watched…
